Support to GEF Eligible Parties (LDCs & SIDs) for the Revision of the NBSAPs and Development of Fifth National Report to the CBD (PHASE I)
Background: This project responds to the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets adopted by the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) (Decision X), which is a commitment to promote effective implementation of the Convention through a strategic approach, comprising a shared vision, a mission, and strategic goals and targets (the Aichi Biodiversity Targets), that will inspire broad-based action by all Parties and stakeholders.
Project objective(s): GEF strategic long-term objective: BD 5Integrate CBD Obligations into National Planning Processes through Enabling Activities
The three main outcomes of the project are:
- National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2016-2025
- Fifth National Report of Maldives to the Convention on Biological Diversity
- A clearing House Mechanism for biodiversity
The Project is funded by GEF through the GEF Implementing Agency UNEP and implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Maldives.
