An awareness workshop on energy efficiency was held at Shaiyani Atoll Funadhoo School from 26th -27th August 2016. This two day workshop was organized by the Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) Project. A total of 49 students from Grade 8, 9 and 10 of Funadhoo School participated in the workshop.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Workshop, Funadhoo School Principal Mr. Robert Silva said that this workshop will increase the awareness of the students on Energy Efficiency and he highlighted that this workshop will have positive impact on responsible usage of electricity.
The workshop was conducted over two days by officials from Ministry of Environment and Energy and the LCEI Project Management Unit.
The certificates were awarded to the participants by the President of Shaviyani Atoll Council Mr. Mohamed Arif, Principal of Funadhoo School Mr. Robert Silva and Deputy Principal of Funadhoo School Ms. Azma Ahmed.
In the workshop, information was given on energy efficiency, ways to be more energy efficient, how to conserve energy and importance of energy efficiency in building design to reduce GHG emissions. Exercises were conducted to provide knowledge on power consumption of equipment’s and power consumption of buildings.
The Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) Project is implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) supported by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and Financed by Government of Maldives and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency in the building sector by developing appropriate polices, guidelines and standards.
