Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) project conducted Energy Efficiency Awareness Workshops in AA. Thoddoo on 22nd August 2017.. A total of 38 students from Grade 8 and 9 of Thooddoo School participated in the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal of Thoddoo School Mr. Moosa Solih and the President of Thoddoo Council Ms. Khadheeja Niusha. Speaking at the inauguration, Principal highlighted the students on the importance of using energy in a more efficient manner and the need to conserve energy. “Today environment has become the most prominent topic in the global context, you as students have to be aware of these topics and need to learn how to fight against environmental degradations, climate change and other environmental impacts. Try to learn from them and make use of the information you obtain through this workshop” he added.
Officials from LCEI Project Management Unit, Energy Department and Environment Department facilitated the workshop.
In the workshop, information was given on climate change, energy efficiency, ways to be more energy efficient, how to conserve energy and importance of energy efficiency in building design to reduce GHG emissions. Exercises were conducted to provide knowledge on electrical Nameplate reading and Electric bill reading.
The project “Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies” project is implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) assisted by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and financed by Government of Maldives and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency in the building sector by developing appropriate policies, guidelines and standards.
