The first Biennial Update Report (BUR) of Maldives was launched today at a ceremony held at Hotel Jen. This report was launched by Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
BURs are reports to be submitted by the countries under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), containing updates of national Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories, including a national inventory report and information on mitigation actions, needs and support received. Such reports provide updates on actions undertaken by a Party to implement the Convention, including the status of its GHG emissions and removals by sinks, as well as on the actions to reduce emissions or enhance sinks.
This report highlights the constraints and gaps, and related financial, technical and capacity needs, including a description of support needed and received to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan said that 21MW solar system has been installed in Maldives to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and the planned projects would further help to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emitted.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of State for Environment Dr. Abdulla Naseer said that one of the biggest environmental challenge Maldives is facing today is the effects of climate change and the Ministry is taking extensive measures to mitigate the effects of climate change in Maldives.
