Dubai UAE – On 9th December 2023, Nature, Land Use and Oceans Day was celebrated at COP28. The thematic day showcased the momentums currently on going and planned to drive ambition and action in halting and reversing biodiversity loss.
Maldives participated in a ministerial hosted by the UAE Presidency. At this closed-door ministerial meeting, governments shared their efforts in the field of mangroves, and highlighted significant blue carbon capacity of mangroves. The Minister also stated that Maldives is in the last stages of participation in the Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC), and Maldives commitments to endorsing the Mangrove Breakthrough following participation in MAC.
Maldives as a co-launcher of the 10 Point Plan on Financing Biodiversity, participated in a 10 Point Plan Ministerial Stock take. Following the launch of the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, now is the time to deliver on pledges towards biodiversity financing. At the event, the 10 Point Plan Stocktake Dashboard was launched, which looks at the trends and direction of progress of the 10 points of the plan.
Maldives also participated in the 3rd High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People Ministerial International Steering Committee Meeting. The meeting focused on taking stock of the progress made during the first year of operationalization of the HAC N&P and validating the workplan for the upcoming year.
