Awards given to winners of “Energy Efficiency Art Competition 2016”

Today, at a ceremony held at Champa Central Hotel, Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim awarded the winners of “Energy efficiency Art Competition 2016”.

The Art competition was organized by Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) project. The objective of the Art competition was to create awareness among the public on the importance of Energy Efficiency and to select four Artworks, for the derivation of the design of the Energy Efficiency badge, which will be used by Maldives Girl Guides Association and The Scout Association of Maldives.

A total of 8 students received awards at the ceremony. Mariyam Shaura Samir, (Thinadhoo School) was awarded the first place from category 1. Abdulla Ian Abdulla, (Jamaaluddin School) and Alya Ubaidulla, (Jamaaluddin School) were awarded the second and third place from the category. In Category 2, Naaih Ilyas Ahmed, (Aminiyya School) received the first place, while, Mariyam Layaan Waheed, (Thinadhoo School) and Eshal Ahmed Naseer, (Iskandhar School) received 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Abaan Mohamed Zahir, (Villa High International School) and Suma Khalid Mohamed was awarded the 1st and 2nd place from category 4, respectively.

At the ceremony, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim launched two Energy Efficiency awareness video spots, which would be used in media to create public awareness on Energy Efficiency.

The “Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies” project is implemented by Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) supported by United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and financed by Government of Maldives and Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through energy efficiency in the building sector, increasing energy efficiency in the building sector by developing appropriate policies, guidelines and standards.
