The National Campaign to reduce plastic bottles was launched today at Kalaafaanu school. The main objective of this campaign is to create awareness among children regarding the harmful impacts of plastics for the environment. This is a part of first 100 days Action Plan of President His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Soilih. To reduce single-use plastics, Ministry of Environment in partnership with Ministry of Education and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has initiated a programme to distribute reusable bottles for first graders in every school. In today’s ceremony, reusable bottles ‘Super Fenfulhi’ were handed over to a total of 15 schools. The ‘Super Fenfulhi’ were handed over to the schools by Minister of State for Environment Dr. Abdulla Naseer and Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali.

These reusable bottles are BPA free and will be distributed to first graders in every school in the Maldives. Ministry has decided to restrict the import of single-use plastics to Maldives under a phase-out plan.

Ministry of Environment in partnership with Ministry of Education and UNICEF has scheduled to distribute reusable bottles ‘Super Fenfulhi’ in 3 regions in Maldives.
