Five Million Tree Planting Project: Construction of Kendhikulhudhoo Nursery Progressing Rapidly

In line with the pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to green the Maldives, the Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council has confirmed that construction of the nursery in N. Kendhikulhudhoo is progressing at a swift pace under the national five million tree planting project.
As part of the government’s policy to establish a nursery in every atoll, work is currently underway to build the infrastructure for the Kendhikulhudhoo nursery. The masonry work for the dedicated storage facility has been fully completed. Additionally, to enhance the functionality of the building, the masonry for the newly integrated restroom facilities has also been finished.

To ensure the security of the nursery, installation of the perimeter fence is also advancing rapidly. Approximately 80 percent of the work involving the casting and installation of the foundation pillars for the fencing has been completed.
The primary objective of establishing this nursery in Kendhikulhudhoo is to strengthen the system for propagating and cultivating the plant species required for the islands in the region. This initiative represents a significant step toward environmental conservation and safeguarding the Maldivian ecosystem against climate change.

According to the project schedule, all works are estimated to be completed by the end of this year. Once the nursery is operational, it will serve as a vital catalyst in achieving the national target of planting five million trees.
