Ministry Completes Facilitative Multilateral Consideration of Progress for its First Biennial Transparency Report

The Ministry has successfully completed the Facilitative Multilateral Consideration of Progress (FMCP) for the Maldives' first Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) under the Paris Agreement under the UNFCCC.
The FMCP is a key component of the Enhanced Transparency Framework under the Paris Agreement. It provides a facilitative and transparent platform, for Parties to the Convention, to engage in constructive multilateral dialogue on progress made towards implementing and achieving their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), while sharing experiences, challenges and lessons learned.
During the session, the Ministry highlighted continued commitment to advancing climate action despite the Maldives' greenhouse gas emissions being negligible compared to global emissions. According to BTR1, the Maldives accounts for approximately 0.004% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet remains among the countries most vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change. Therefore, building adaptive capacity and strengthening climate resilience remain critical national priorities for the Maldives, with continued investments in resilience-building measures supported by development partners
