TREE-PLANTING DRIVE HELD IN K. HIMMAFUSHI AS PART OF PRESIDENT MUIZZU’S FIVE MILLION TREES INITIATIVE

As part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's presidential pledge to plant five million trees across the Maldives, a successful tree-planting event was held today in K. Himmafushi. This initiative is a vital component of the government's broader efforts to protect the Maldivian environment and preserve its natural beauty.

The event saw active participation from members of the Himmafushi Island Council, the Women's Development Committee (WDC), and senior officials from the Ministry of Climate Change, Environmental and Energy representing the 5 Million Tree Planting Program. Led by the island council, the activity showcased the community's commitment and collaborative spirit toward environmental conservation.

This national project is designed to be implemented extensively across the entire archipelago to ensure environmental sustainability. Beyond merely planting trees, the program aims to raise environmental awareness and educate the public on the sustainable use of natural resources.

The varieties planted today in Himmafushi were carefully selected based on their suitability to the local ecosystem and their potential to enhance the island's natural biodiversity. A primary objective of this national program is to increase the greenery of islands while working alongside citizens to address environmental challenges.

The initiative is expected to enhance the lushness of the islands, improve air quality, and bolster the natural aesthetic of the country. In the long term, it is anticipated to benefit environmental research and the tourism industry. The successful activity in Himmafushi marks a significant step toward achieving the national goal of planting five million trees, with the program organizers confirming that similar activities will continue throughout the Maldives.
