In Collaboration with Scouts, 5 Million "Tree Guardian Badge" Introduced

To further expand President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's 5 Million Trees Program, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, in collaboration with the Scout Association of Maldives, officially launched a special "Tree Guardian Badge" today. The badge was launched by the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Honorable Ali Shareef.

In a special ceremony held today at the Ministry for this purpose, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Deputy Minister Ahmed Athif, who is in charge of running the 5 Million Trees Program, and on behalf of the Scout Association by the Association's Vice President, Ahmed Haneef.
This badge was introduced with the important objectives of conducting large-scale tree planting activities in the Maldives and familiarizing youth and children with this national project. While a guideline detailing the rules for achieving this badge has now been formulated, the trees required for planting under this activity will be provided to the scouts by the Ministry. Furthermore, the scouts must care for and monitor the trees planted by them until they are properly grown.

Minister Ali Shareef stated that the pledge to plant 5 million trees is a program that will proceed with a strong focus on greening spaces alongside land reclamation and beautification efforts. He added that the Scouts joining this program is an added expansion and further progress for the program. Moreover, this additional badge will become a useful and equally important badge for the scouts.

According to the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, numerous activities are planned to be carried out in collaboration with the Scout Association. Additionally, work on planning various events alongside this badge is currently underway.
Under this major project initiated by the government to green the Maldives, 2.3 million trees have been planted so far this year. Furthermore, to carry out this program sustainably, work to establish plant nurseries in 20 islands of the Maldives is also progressing rapidly.
