Five Million Tree Planting Programme: Discussions Held with Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital

Important discussions have been held with R. Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital on implementing at island level the national Five Million Tree Planting Programme carried out under the direction of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
These discussions were held during the current trip to R. Atoll by the team running this programme, together with the senior officials of the Regional Hospital on that island.

The main objective of this meeting was to increase the participation of institutions in implementing at island level this major project initiated by the government to protect the Maldives’ environment and increase greenery. Accordingly, views were exchanged broadly between the two sides on ways in which tree-planting activities could be carried out on a broad scale within the grounds of Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital and, with the participation of that hospital, at island level.
This programme is an important national-level project being carried out with the aim of planting 5 million trees throughout the Maldives, in order to protect the Maldives’ fragile environment and reinforce efforts to overcome climate change. During the current trip to R. Atoll, work is ongoing to meet with councils and institutions of various islands of the atoll and to carry out the programme successfully.
