Maldives Participates in IEF Ministerial Meeting and WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, represented by State Minister Dr. Muaviyath Mohamed, participated in two major international energy gatherings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: the 17th International Energy Forum (IEF17) Ministerial Meeting, held on 11 October 2026, and the 25th WPC Energy Congress, taking place from 12 to 14 October 2026.
The 17th International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting brings together energy ministers, senior government officials, industry leaders and representatives of international organisations to discuss developments in global energy markets and strengthen cooperation between energy producing and energy consuming countries. The discussions focus on energy security, market stability, transparency and the challenges facing the global energy sector amid changing market conditions and evolving energy demands. The forum also provides an opportunity for participating countries to exchange perspectives on investment, international cooperation and the importance of ensuring stable, reliable and affordable energy supplies.

The 25th WPC Energy Congress serves as a global platform for policymakers, energy ministers, industry representatives and technical experts to share knowledge and explore emerging trends shaping the future of energy. The Congress focuses on key issues including energy security, technological innovation, investment, energy resilience and the development of sustainable energy systems. It also provides opportunities to discuss the role of cleaner energy technologies, the advancement of renewable energy and the approaches needed to meet growing energy demands while supporting long-term sustainability.
Participation in both gatherings provides the Maldives with an opportunity to engage with international partners, exchange experiences and gain insights into global energy developments relevant to the country's national priorities. As a small island developing state, the Maldives faces particular challenges in ensuring energy security and affordability, while reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels and advancing the transition towards renewable energy.

The Maldives participation underscores its continued commitment to international dialogue and cooperation on energy related issues. Through engagement with global energy stakeholders, the country seeks to support efforts to strengthen energy resilience, promote renewable energy development and encourage sustainable solutions that address the unique needs and vulnerabilities of small island developing states.
These engagements also reflect the importance of international collaboration in advancing a more secure, accessible and sustainable global energy future, while supporting the Maldives ongoing efforts to build a resilient energy sector for the benefit of its people and future generations.
