Maldives participates in the 9th meeting of the Board of the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage

The Maldives, through the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, will attend the 9th meeting of the Board of the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), to be held in Manila, Philippines from 8th July 2026 to 10th July 2026. Director of the Climate Change Department Mr. Ahmed Waheed will represent Maldives at the Board meeting.
The FRLD is the world’s first multilateral climate fund that supports developing countries to finance climate change-related loss and damage activities.
Maldives is currently an Alternate Board Member to the seat allocated to the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) constituency on the FRLD Board. Through its participation, Maldives will contribute to advancing the priorities and perspectives of SIDS in the implementation of the FRLD’s mandate to support loss and damage response action in developing countries.
The 9th Board Meeting of the FRLD will bring stakeholders to discuss the Fund's Barbados Implementation Modalities, operational policies, and investment portfolio, with the aim of strengthening support for developing countries.
Maldives' participation reflects the country’s continued commitment to advancing the interests of vulnerable nations, promoting equitable access to climate finance, and ensuring that the unique needs and circumstances of SIDS are reflected in the work of the FRLD.
