Accelerating Sustainable Systems Using Renewable Energy (ASSURE)
The ASSURE project in the Maldives aims to enhance renewable energy penetration and promote sustainable development. Key activities include:
Solarization of Agriculture: Implementing innovative farming approaches and irrigation systems powered by renewable energy to improve food security and support income generation, particularly for women.
Gender Inclusive Initiatives: Providing training and creating employment opportunities for women in renewable energy sectors, including internships and leadership programs.
Community Driven Approaches: Fostering climate-resilient development through community-driven initiatives and ensuring the involvement of local communities in the project.
Increase use of renewable energy systems: Install Solar PV hybrid systems in 20 inhabited islands, enhance power grid of these islands and install 46MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems. In addition, pilot projects of wind energy and Ocean current will be conducted.
The project is supported by the Asian Development Bank and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy security in the Maldives.
